Tomas Farrington - Youth Cancer Europe (YCE)

Tomas Farrington

I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when I had just turned 20 years old. The diagnosis came after a lengthy period of misdiagnosis and so I was both shocked and a little relieved when I was told.

Seeing other young peoples will power to push through treatment is what gave me the most encouragement. Since finishing treatment I have aimed to get involved in many different charities and events to help other young people facing cancer.

I particularly focus on the mental health aspect as this is what I struggled with the most and is something I feel often gets overlooked. I am currently at University studying Music and in my spare time I take part in charity fundraisers and small focus groups to challenge the integrity of the current systems in place in the UK for young people.

I was so happy to be elected for the YCE steering committee as it gives me yet more opportunity and reach to help other young people who have or are going through a cancer diagnosis.
