Pawel Klonowski, Poland - Youth Cancer Europe (YCE)

Pawel Klonowski, Poland

“My name is Pawel and I come from Poland. I am a fitness instructor with a lot of energy to share with other people. When I was diagnosed with bone cancer in my spine, it was huge and devastating turn of events in my life. Not only I had to stop doing all the things that I loved but nobody gave me the guarantee that I could ever walk again after the surgery. It was a very hard time for me as an active person to loose feeling in my legs and it was getting worse every day. But when I woke up after surgery and I could move my toe I discovered by myself that there are miracles happening in this world. After a very long treatment during which I received a lot of support from my family and my friends I could go back to sharing positive energy with other people during my fitness classes. Since that time, life is not the same. It is more magnificent, fantastic and wonderful now!

In December 2014 I was invited to take part in the Youth Cancer Europe Open Summit in Bucharest. It was the first time for me when I could openly talk about my experience with cancer with other young people. That time I realised that I was not alone in this and I received a lot of mental support from other cancer survivors and organisers of the event. In August 2015 I had a chance to take part in my second event organised for young cancer survivors in Cluj Napoca. During this summer camp I was able to connect again with other people struggling with cancer. Together we could share our problems and find solutions so that we become stronger then before. I am very grateful that I could participate in these amazing events and I cannot wait to meet these wonderful people again!” – Pawel Klonowski, Polish cancer survivor
